Ben, here is the promised pic... I don't claim this is a great place for the panel, hence the search for something better... but this location does elimate shadows and allows some positioning. It will hang either side of the boat and moves easily by just rotating the hanger locks and lifting free of the life line.
While I took the picture, I was thinking that one of my complaints (it swings) might be checked with some additional effort to lock the aft end somehow to the midship stanchion. Will give that some thought.
Just a note: I gave up on the tennis balls and filed all the edges of the solar panel and glued strips of carpet around the corners and outside edge. Works great and is alot cleaner.
