Hi Ben! That was a good day to try out the winchers, and they worked great. If my next boat doesn't have self-tailing winches, I might get a set for cruising.
I'm to try the Winchers. At that price why not? I don't mind the horn cleat in light air and I'm not too interested in racing. When (should say IF) I'm by myself dealing with the Force 5 winds in 'the slot' I don't want to stear with my knee :) while cranking the winch! Thx Stu and Ben...
I put some Ronstan cams in a position where I can hook the sheet under one horn of the standard cleat to lead it into the cam--as an alternative to risers.

As for clam cleats, they were the first thing I threw overboard...they tend to release unexpectedly, and to "catch" the lazy sheet when tacking. Maurice, I see your clam cleats are on a wedge shaped wooden spacer. I had thought about adding a spacer to mine. It don't have one, and I have the devil to get the line to stay. (also when I bought the boat, they were installed BACKWARDS). Does the wedge shape help much? I wouldn't have thought to do that. Then again, I'm new to all this. All I've seen were cam cleats.

The wedges help a lot, mine are getting pretty old so I think I will make some new ones soon.
