Interested in the responses to this one.

I've heard several sides of what to do about working on the textured surface of the deck. Some say to NOT wax it since it would be too slippery. Others say to wax it so it doesn't get "chaulky".

Any thoughts?

how about coating the surface with those little bits of used chewing gum sprinkled with sand? No sliding there...

I really haven't been on very many boats. I have had three keel boats; all with white decks. I welcomed the dulling of the deck. It diffuses the reflected solar rays. I have always used a cleaner that did not shine the deck back up. Usually Soft-Scrub; rinse very well, especially the windows. Any clean deck looks good.

Practical Sailor ran a test of deck cleaners in the 2/15/05 issue. They rated Soft Scrub as 'excellent', then turned around and said not to use it on fiberglass, especially those with gelcoat, due to its abrasiveness.

Scooter, nonskid areas collect airborne pollen and what have you and sometimes this debri holds enough moisture to mildew. I'm impressed with the nonskid cleaner/sealer by Starbright and I'm sure others make something similar. The sealer greatly aids in keeping the nonskid looking good and I've noticed no difference in traction.
