I have a 95 C250 #85. It came with the one burner stove with the undersink butane goody. It is hard to get to..You can't tell if you are inserting the little butane bottle correctly..and I wouldn't leave the butane bottle in after use.....Here's the question, Can I use propane in this stove? ( probably from a camp stove bottle not an integral big bottle). Can I just change the hose fittings and use the stove as is? Would I need to change the jets? Or should I just unbolt the undersink system and put it toward the fron of the sink and "Live" with it? Who will be the weakest link?
Thanks guys for any replies.

Why wouldn't you leave the butane bottle in between uses? As long as you have both the stove off and the control knob on the butane holder off I don't see a problem (but if my logic is flawed & I'm going to ignite my boat<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> please let me know you thoughts). As far as converting to propane I'm not sure, but I would check the stove manufacturer's web site since my understanding is that most of these units can be used w/ propane if you've got the proper hookup (be careful though with storage).

We keep 2 bottles of butane on board and swap out when cooking for a long time (like that Sunday breakfast with your neighbors). When the bottles get cold they tend not to perform as well so just switch the bottles out every so often and you can cook almost anything.

Hi, I have a 95 WB # 146 with the same setup. The butane canaster always leaked and was difficult to light. I converted to a portable propane setup by changing the hose and fittings. The hose is long enough that the propane bottle sits in the cockpit during use. It is still hard to light, I think, because of a temperature sensitive automatic cut off. I sometimes have to hold the start knob down until water is boiling before it will stay lit. Any solution to this? Usually, I opt to use the stern mounted Magma Grill/stove.

The rinky dinky cannister set up was a joke and of course was abandoned by Catalina somewhere after hull 224.

There are several solutions. The simplest is to remove the quick couple from the rinky dink prior to trashing it. Fit this to a camp stove valve, the one I used was for a portable grill. You can avoid using a regulator if the cannister valve stem has a very small hole.

Keep the cannisters in the fuel locker and quick couple and set in the galley locker when using the stove only. I would not trust the quick coupler or for that matter a cheap valve and leave these hooked up or even in the cabin.

Other options are a variation of storage choice but all have the line led out of cabin aft. One idea is to use the camp cannisters and place in the starboard coaming box. I've been told that they camp cannisters will work fine in the horizontal position. Others have mounted in sachel hanging from the life lines, or used a dedicated tank. One owner mounted his on his port stern quarter.

I kinda like the coaming box idea and will likey go that route if my quick couplers play out.

I also have a 95 WB 250 S/N 089, I do not trust the current set up with the single butane burner, I never thought the cannister was seated well enough before trying to lite it, I also believe I have read horror stories about curtains and blistering of the side panel above the stove, I like the idea of converting the area into a bread board.
What has worked well and with proper judgement are the Coleman single burner stoves with the single cannister, set on the floor or outside on the floor of the deck. We aren't talking a steak roast here but for coffee etc and proper juggement it worked fine.
