Could someone please post a picture of companion way with the boards in and tha sliding hatch closed? I am in the process of re-building the hatch pieces I have, and making the pieces that I don't have, and I need a picture so that I can see how all this fits together. I need to build the weather board for the sliding hatch and I need to see how it fits to the top of the hatch board. I think that the hatch board should be a little tall so that the sliding hatch needs to be lifted up just a little so that the sliding hatch weather board sits on top of the hatch boards. Is this correct? Thanks in advance Dan

That's the way mine works... is it "correct"? Dunno about that part. ;>)
Mine is that way too... The only bad thing I think about this is that I had a heavy handed friend break my guides for the hatch when he slid it "too" hard.
Well we all know mine do not look fantastic, in fact I was aghast to find a little green on the bottom edge of the lower. I guess I will do a little sanding. Anyway, I posted some detail that might help. If it doesn't let me know and I will kill the album. Hatchboard Detail
Thanks for the photo's Clay and Frank. I got exactly what I needed. Frank, your boards look great compaired to the junk I have. Clay's look real nice. Nice work! Dan
Clay, could you tell me what you used to clean your wood and what varnish, steps in between, etc. that you used to aquire such a beautiful look to your hatchboards. They look great!!
My top hatch board doesn't have the louvered cuts like some others do, and I'd lkie to make that change for ventilation. Do any of you that have these louvers also have problems with bugs (wasps, etc) entering the boat at that location?

I don't have any problems with insects and the open hatchboard vent openings, but my boat gets used quite a bit which doesn't give insects a chance to establish a homefront. Other nearby, seldom used boats aren't so lucky, with mud daubers making a home in some of those non-moving boats.
Although I removed it when I refinished my hatchboards, the PO had installed a piece of screen over the inside of the vent slits to keep insects at bay. It was secured with self-adhesive Velcro.
Oh, if you do put your own louvers in the hatchboard, be sure to angle them a fair amount so rainwater doesn't enter the cabin.
My boomtent/cabin tarp has allowed me to make quite a statement; I have never found a bug in my boat. I have the louvers and also have permanent screen installed. I have bought an oval Bomar portlight and am thinking about installing it in one of my hatchboards.
