Has anyone tried to install a 2-way fridge in the space where the cooler sits in the C250. I'm really tired of the ice in the cooler thing. Let me know your thoughts.
I'm not that familiar with the 250 setup, but is the cooler you are trying to replace a standard size cooler? Have you considered getting a thermoelectric cooler and putting it in it's place? I believe most of these are both AC/DC meaning you can leave them plugged in to the 120VAC when the boats in the slip and, if necessary, plug it into the 12vDC when underway. They advertise that they cool to 46 degrees below the ambient temperature. Check out the link.
I bought a Coleman Survivor. It runs on DC, AC, and propane. On a weekend cruise, one bottle of propane will last about 2.5 days and keep food very well. It does not fit in the space for the cooler, so it sets on the floor aft of the "coffee table". I monitor the propane carefully when in use, but there is an automatic cutoff if the pilot goes out. I use it at home as a spare fridge when not cruising. For day sails, I still use ice in the cooler under the galley.
Thanks for the info on the fridge. I have an igloo 48. I have looked into the thermoelectric coolers I'm concerned that cooling 46 degrees below ambient temperature is not enough. The lake we sail at the temp is in the mid to high 90's during the day and with 2 kids I really need to keep the fridge in it's place under the galley.
we have a 99 C250 and we were also sick of the cooler in the cabin that never kept ice more than a day. we bought an ULTRA COOL 50 by Igloo. it is supposed to keep ice for 5 days. (of course it does not) but it keeps ice for a few days. we keep it on top of the seat behind the wheel. a couple of bungie cords to the rails, keeps it firmly in place. and as a bonus, it doubles as a seat for the captain. it is the perfect height. it is all white and looks like part of the boat!! removing the cooler from the spot in the cabin next to the sink allowed us to put shelves in the space where the origional cooler fit and with a little ingenuity, made stationary curtains out of matching fabric to hide the shelves. we can now keep our clothes neatly hidden away.
The captain having a cooler for a seat in the cockpit is a cooool(pardon the pun) idea.<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>Igloo even makes a marine series that has a cushion attached to the top of the lid. Now that's cool!(I did it again) Here's a link.
thanks don. i will check it out. while i have you here. i am new to this forum and i have been trying to get to the archives. i dont seem to be able to find how to get there. any info?
Welcome aboard and good question. I'm somewhat of a newbie myself(don't let my rank fool you), but I think the theory is you select the search menu that is up in the top righthand corner and when the search screen comes up, check the "archived posts" box when doing your search. Now, having said that, I've tried this and all I get is a "no matches found" response. I'm not sure if the archives do not have what I'm looking for or they can't be accessed that way. Anyway, from what I understand, this forum used to be on the "trailersailor" website and it does have archived(old) posts that you can search. Here's the link.
