My wife and I were in San Diego this pass weekend and had a great time, cool city. While we were there, we looked into the possibility of finding a slip in the Mission Bay area. Although we only talked to one guy, the response was something like a 5 year wait. Tell me it isn't so, are there others areas, maybe SD bay?
Not sure if this is real or not, I'm retiring next month and checking options. San Diego being only a 6 hour +/- drive might work. It would be a great place to get away for a week or so at a time.
Anyway you guys rock and thanks for any help in advance

Jim, I had the same situation this year in San Francisco trying to find a slip and all those waiting lists would have been $800 $1200 in waiting list fees. I used this link and and e-mailed everyone in the area telling them my boat size, how long I wanted to stay and my $300,000 liability insurance policy number. That nite I had a reply from Ballena Marina and was in the next week end. http://www.boatharborslocator.com/ Good Luck paulj
Hi Jim. I am surprised that Jim Baumgart hasn't chimed in yet.....must not be back from sailing this evening off Mission Bay. You should check Marina Village Marina. Let them know you have a Catalina 25 and know Jim Baumgart and Gary Norgan down on L Dock. There seems to be several slips vacant but I don't know if they are rented already. The person to call and talk to is Ineke....she knows we exist on L Dock and knows Jim quite well. Jim and I are in slips 21 and 22 and Mike is in 23 and the Cavins from Phoenix are in 16 I think. Plus another C25 was just bought and is two slips away in 19. What this means is that Fleet 7 resides on L Dock.
AND...We have a major, major dock party and barbeque set for this Saturday followed by a night sail / race starting up at Del Mar and coming back to our slips in Mission Bay. Some of us will then raft up in Mariner's Basin for the night. We might have 4 boats out but don't know for sure yet.
Call Marina Village at: 1936 Quivira Way . San Diego, CA 92109 Marina 619-224-3125
Hope this works out. Would be great to have you and your wife join us in Fleet 7. Spring has sprung, we're sailing alot, and the days are getting longer and summer is almost here.
Marina Village has 25 foot slips open, no wait, this time of year. Byt they will be full soon. Nov - March is a good time to move in. The fisherman pull their boats out for winter.
Slips are pretty tight at some marinas in SD Bay. One of the cheapest and newest is Chula Vista Marina at the south end of the Bay. The winds are usally good there, but there are lots of shallow areas. Also, it's more than three hours to get out to the ocean from there.
I used to have my boat at the Navy Sailing Club across the bay from there. I'm glad I made the move to Mission Bay. It takes about 15 minutes to get out to the ocean or a lot of easy bay sailing is available.
We would love to have you at L Dock. Sometimes they can put you into an available slip until one comes open on the dock you want. Call and talk to Ineke. She's wonderful and very helpfulShe doesn't work on Mondays.
Hey, JimB, that's one fine picture I took of your boat....but I see you're dragging that motor again and all those poles off the stern sure slow you down, too. Jim Meadows, have you called Ineke yet? If you don't call by Saturday morning, either JimB or I will go over and talk to her and get you a slip on "our" dock just in case you decide this is where your boat belongs. Looks like a great weekend for Fleet 7 sailing. Anyone else around Mission Bay or San Diego who would like to sail with us just needs to ask. Oh, and bring the beer and maybe something to eat....
I've been on the wait list at Sea World for over a year. They say to expect at least another 6 month wait. I checked with Marina Village and Driscoll's today - none available, no expected turnover soon. Even Chula Vista has a 6 month wait. I'm getting anxious to purchase my first sailboat (a 25 or 250), but need somewhere to put it!
