I went with the full baten main and a 110% working jib plus an additional storm jib. Catalina Direct called me to thank me and told me i'd have them in 6 weeks! not to worried though, the old sails still work fine.

Would it be too tacky to ask you what Catalina Direct is charging for these sails?

Hey Steve,
not bad
For a Tall rig, full batten main, two reefs, and numbers, direct from Gary Swenson I paid 851.
For a steadying sail (anchor riding sail) an additional 85
Shipping to Knoxville 31

Having a well made sail Priceless

Anyone have any recommendations for buying an ASSymmetrical spinnaker? Have a tall rig and have been wondering if one needs to actually get the BIGGEST possible size. Wouldn't downsizing it a bit allow one to sail it in stronger winds rather than putting it away when the wind builds? The tall rig already has alot of sail up and now that I have installed a NEW WHISKER POLE for when I use the 150 maybe I don't even need one.
Have always paid a little extra to go with Gary Swenson from Ventura and have ALWAYS been very satisfied, both with the sails and with how quickly they get made/sent.

flying a chute when the wind is a bit high can cause a broach or even tearing the spinn. however, i think an asym for a standard rig will work just fine on a tall rig. i'll look for the measurments of mine and post them.

A high wind Asym would be a different cloth weight, stitching, etc. I'd say buy it for what it is intended for and use it that way. (Jim says you will never catch him anyway!)

Thanks, Steve. With your Assym. measurements I might be able to find a used sail at Minnie's Chandlery near Newport Beach, CA. that would be close enough to do the job. Currently a bit cash short for new sails due to "TwoKidsinCollegeitis" disease.
