Well race fans, the 52nd annual Mug Race 2005 is over and a whopping 3 out of 175 sailboats finished the 40 mile race from Palatka to Orange Park sponsored by the Jacksonville Rudder Club.

Association members Pretty Penny II was there along with Corte D' Azure and Chick-a-pea.

Here is a little video. It is MS Media Player format (.wmv) and 21 minutes long, low res.

More to come...

Ben, don't know why I would want to watch something I would rather had not experienced, but would except the machine keeps saying, access denied for not enough bandwith. Don't know what that means except, no go for my machine.

Ben, The video worked for me today. Great job. Sometimes, gettting there is HALF the fun. This year, getting there was ALL the fun. I certainly taxed the patience. I withdrew when my groundspeed needed to be 5.5 knots to finish.
I had an incident with my engine and had it almost fall into the river. The top motor mount failed. The only thing holding the engine on was the gear shift! A few ropes around the engien to the primary winches and we were back underway.
I dropped my crew off in Green Cove and refueled. From there I was able to sail under spinnaker and it was fantastic. I crossed the finish line as the 3 boats that finished crossed.
One could complain about the crab pot, lack of wind, or engine failure. I will remember the steak, shrimp, and lobster! Thanks for a great weekend!

Tom.

Chuckling a bit here at the thought that this may be the race that Y'all remember more than others.

Actually I've been so busy I haven't had time to upload the still photos yet. And I've been meaning to make a web page forever! But at least the feast or famine pendelum is on the up swing. I will be checking into the web hosting deal. My sister-n-law makes webpages and I may just have to pay her for me a company page.

Just right click on the shortcut and do save as. Will play smoother and faster if you play it from your hard drive.

Ben - I just came across a photo of a young lady on a sailboat participating in the Mug Race and she was exhibiting her, ummm, "mugs." So maybe only 3 boats finished but it appears some folks figured out an interesting way to relieve the boredom.

email me maddensteve@comcast.net and I'll send it to you. I don't want to be responsible for lowering the level of propriety here on the C25-250 forum.
