The upper shrouds are pretty important... I'd replace it.
As you've discovered, making sure all the fittings are lead 'fair' is a major consideration during the mast raising process. That is one of the reasons I leave my uppers detached while raising the mast. One less thing to get hung up (provided you keep them out of the way).
Having a pair of binoculars handy is a good idea so you can 'study' the fittings before you tighten things up.
Bending the swaged fitting has weakened it, but there's no way of knowing how much. If you try to straighten it, that will weaken it further.
Before you raise the mast, organize the shrouds so that they will be fair as the mast comes up, and then tie the uppers to the lifelines with a rubber band. As the mast comes up, the rubber bands will break away.
One can buy the lower threaded portion of a turnbuckle, as these are commonly bent in use. The upper portion, swaged above the threads, is another matter, unfortunately. I am afraid you must replace that, or risk a serious failure, probably at the most stressful moment. Fair winds (and sympathy) Ron srsk Orion sw FL
My first choice would be to replace the entire shroud.
My second choice would be to see if there's a swageless extended terminal available just for this situation. Check with Sta-Loc, Suncor, Norseman, etc.
I would not suggest using it as is, or trying to straighten it. The stakes are just too high.
I bent a shroud on my first mast raising...my dock mates were adamant that I replace and not attempt repair. I ordered parts from Catalina Direct on two occasions - I rec'd good service both times and highly recommend using them for parts that you want to keep original. Importing costs are about $30 - so make sure you order everything on your list. Delivery service was fast both times. The first delivery was UPS and the second was via US Post/Canada Post. They were about the same in terms of cost and delivery times.
Thanks for the help. The local Chandelry in town can provide me with the Sta-lok solution. Seems that they have an extended shaft replacement for this problem.
