The one thing I found I do not like about my trailerable Cat 25, is the bumpy 40 minute drive to Lake Michigan. I didn't secure my turnbuckles and lost one. In checking out my sailing hardware mag, they only go up to 1/4 inch open body turnbuckles. Mine measures 5/16 inch. Which is correct?
On my 1979 C-25 standard rig, I use Hayn open body bronze and stainless steel, toggle jaw / toggle jaw turnbuckles, 5/16" on the four lower shrouds, 3/8" on the four masthead stays. I found the Hayn turnbuckles available from West Marine, Defender, and my local old time boat yard.
You have two different wire sizes for your main. The uppers are bigger. I'm not sure if the turnbuckles would reflect that or not. Call Catalina Direct. I got all my new rigging from them and they will know. You can buy individual pieces from them too.
FWIW . . . I replaced all of my original stainless turnbuckles with the new style unit from Catalina. The turnbuckle itself is bronze and has a polished stainless cover. More functional and better looking - and they were all the same size.
I replaced the turnbuckles with new ones fron Catalina Direct. Like them alot better than the original ones with the closed bodies and the lock nuts. I can easily tell at a glance how much adjustment I have, and I don't have them working loose on me.
OJ and george, I bought both, hate the new Catalina ones, love the open turnbuckles from CD. The problems with the new style are; bronze part machined and left with sharp edges and it is very hard to get the collars down over any kind of swaging to lock the turn buckles. I only have the new ones on my lowers now.
