Hi folks,
I have a new Ullman full batten main for my tall rig. Great sail, I recommend it highly.
Now my problem is that my old sail cover won't fit it. I don't know if it is because of the new "crispness" of a new sail so I can't mash it down like my old one, or if the full battens add to the volume, or a combination of both. Either way, I need a new sail cover. dMy existing cover came with the boat, and is probably a cheap generic cover.
I called Catalina direct and they wouldn't commit to whether or not their ready made cover would fit a full battem main. They are out of their upgrade cover anyways and don't know when new ones will come in.
My local canvas guy is really busy.
So have any of you gotten a new cover lately? Or whose cover are you using for your Ullman full batten main? Will a Catalina Direct cover do it?
I found lots of companies on the internet who will make a cover if you supply measurements, but don't know who does good work.

Suggestions?

I bought my new mainsail cover from Doyle Sailmakers Buffalo/Cleveland. It cost $185 and I had them make a matching tiller cover for $45. (Wide choice of colors.) They made it from the old cover, but supersized it just because new sails are "crispier". Point is, they know what size to make it because they know sails. I'm very pleased with the larger fit.

Frank, I had the same problem. My wife had made a wonderful sail cover for the old sail and it was just the right size. The new full batten sail was a struggle to get covered. What I did was cut the cover length wise and insert a 6 inch strip on both sides. By inserting I was able to save the fastners. This worked very well and at very little cost.

It's very easy to do, and works out great. In a contrasting color, it looks like a decorative stripe -- very stylish. If on the sides, wide, and in a light color, provides a place to apply lettering, etc. before sewing into old cover.

I've got the same setup as you, a tall rig with the Ullman full batten main. I bought the mainsail cover from Catalina Direct a couple of years ago and it fit with no problems. I have mast gates on my boat, so I can easily push the main all the way down on the boom. The cover is nice.

Same problem here. My OEM Catalina sail cover is too small to fit the much bulkier Ullman full batten main, especially at the mid-boom point. I will try the suggestion to add-in a length of extra fabric. I have already had to splice in a 12" X 33' length of extra sunbrella on my jib sock, which was too small in diameter to fit the new Ullman 135 genny (it came unexpectedly with a foam luff pad, which made it at least 4" larger in circumference on the furler than the old sail, even rolled as tightly as possible).
