We keep our boat on a mooring in the summer, and find the stock bow chocks too small for the lines we use. (Plus one chock arrived broken and needs to be replaced anyway.) I'd like to remove them and install new bigger ones. Drilling holes in boats makes me nervous, especially in a wet place like that. Any advice on how to drill out and properly fill the old screw holes, and how to drill and properly seal the new installation? Should I/ Can I back the screws/ bolts to handle any vertical loads? (Don't see how...)
Cesar, Yes, It is better to do inspection ports in the anchor locker. Thanks! David Graas Customer Service/Technical Support ---------------------- David,
Thanks for the prompt reply! Do the bow chocks need backing plates? and if so how do I access them? doI need to cut inspection ports in the anchor well?
TIA,
Cesar --------------------------- Cesar, Any good bedding compound such as 3M 4200, Siki-Flex, Boatlife will work well. The new cleats need a backing plare and/or fender washers under the deck. Thanks! David Graas Customer Service/Technical Support
-------------------------------- To Catalina Service: I'd like to install bigger bow chocks, since our boat is on a mooring in the summer and the current bow chocks can't accomodate the mooring lines and chafing gear. (Plus when the boat arrived at the dealer last year, one of the chocks was broken and was never replaced despite indications from the dealer that he had contacted you about it.)
I'd like to know what bedding compound you'd recommend, and whether it is possible or necessary to back the fasteners with nuts to handle any vertical loads.
I look forward to hearing from you soon! Thanks in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
