Here's a link to Memorial Weekend trip pictures. http://homepage.mac.com/andrerica17/ We sailed in perfect conditions from City Island to Oyster Bay, across to Stamford, CT and finally into Hunington Harbor and our anchorage at Lloyd Harbor. We stayed there for the weekend not doing anything but reading and eating and enjoying life. I wish I had captured it on film but throughout the days there were so many sail boats out on the Sound that it looked like a boat show. The few stink-boats we saw looked like spastic children running back and forth. They were clearly out numbered by the slow but steady crowd (cool) such as ourselves. HA!
There's also folder with pictures of our new 3rd Generation rudder we purchased, finally, from Catalina. (Spoke with Mr. Butler himself!) The new rudder works perfectly!! I can't belive that I fnally have a balanced helm (now what do I do with my Popeye arms?) The other pictures are of the fixed keel after last years run in with a rock. I faired the keel and added layer upon layer of Interlux Watertite (two part) fairing compound. Then sanded and sanded and sanded... Will be very curious to see how it looks at the end of the season.
I'm selling the old kick-up rudder if anyone's interested. What's a fair price?
Gudgeon Dilema. The rudder's LOWER pintle is not set in its gudgeon completely. The UPPER is holding all the weight of the rudder and the Lower is basically bouncing around in the gudgeon hole like a pendulum. Ideally the Upper gudgeon would be 1/8" lower and both pintles would be resting perfectly in place (or the lower one moved up 1/8". To make matters worse is that the lower gudgeon is moving back and forth making the bolt holes bigger which of course is allowing some water to seep in. Tightening bolts does nothing. (Hence the picture of Erica dangling over the transom to apply silicone around lower gudgeon.) So how to fix this??? Remove lower gudgeon completely, fill in holes, measure 1/8" higher, redrill and bolt in new placement of gudeon? That seems like the most plausable idea. In the meantime I added a brass grommet over the Lower pintle to help bridge the gap. Works okay as a temporary measure. Any suggesions would be helpful. I'll post some pictures when I get back to the boat.
One more Q. Has anyone ever repainted the OB engine cover? My Honda factory paint is peeling off. Not sure why. Does anyone know of engine paint?
Andre, Beautiful pictures from lower New York. Andre the cover on my Honda 8 also looks like crap and I like it that way. Reason: Would you steal an engine with a cover that looks like that? Keep those pictures
Neat Pic's, I've repainted serveral old OB's over the years Johnson's and Mariners. I contacted an Johnson/Mariner OB dealer and they had the matching OB Paint for my motor. I expect you will find the same with an Honda OB dealer as well.
