Just purchased from CD a heavy duty gudgeon pt # E1304, looks great, however , after installing I discovered that the ferrule is as long as the pintle and doesn't allow the use of a cottor pin. Anyone else run into this?
I ran into the same issue last year. I reversed the pintles so the longer one is on top. I bought a metal "collar" at the hardware store that had a small set screw to tighten. I gave about a half inch of play. Worked nicely... check it a few times during season. Not stainless so I just bought new one for this year. Good luck. Jims
I'm in my 2nd season of sailing with my '89 SR/WK and have never had a cotter pin in my pintle. My rudder is so difficult to intall that I don't think it would ever come out on it's own. Am I just lucky so far?? I replaced both my gudgeons with the HD ones from CD. While cleaning the pintles I noticed the hole for the cotter won't work with the new gudgeon so I just drilled a new one lower on the pintle. I guess I should probably put a pin in.

Mine pulls up on the cotter pin when the boat pitches, so I added a fender washer between the gudgeon and the pin to prevent wear on the pin.
