Sam, when you say the rail has split - do you mean the thinner lip that hangs over the hatchboards? Depending on how bad the split is, you might be able to repair it using Resourcinol (sp?) glue and stainless brads. As teak is so oily, I poured acetone into the split before applying the glue.
[quote] The rails that hold my companionway hatch have split. I need to replace them.
Where does one purchase these rails instead of having to find teak and have it milled? Thanks,
Sam, I bought mine from the Catalina Factory...$ 38.00 if I recall correctly. It seems that you're expected to remember to raise the sliding hatch when closing it the last few inches.[;-)] Sometimes I do and sometimes I replace the rails.
I had to replace two pieces of teak around my companionway. I stopped at a local lumberyard that has teak and they used the old pieces as a template and cut new ones. Total cost $30. Catalina Direct could supply them but were not sure of the pattern since Catalina changed it a couple of times over the years.
