Ok it happened, 1 or max 2 flushes not 6, and watch the meter, if it turns red, we have a problem.
Two days and two nights on board, then overflow of the porta potti. Lesson learned.

Could you elaborate a little? You were expecting 6 flushes? What size head? I'm expecting delivery of a Thetford 885 that has a built-in 6 gal. holding tank and want to make sure I'm headed ;-) in the right direction.

In order to have my porta potti not fill up so fast on a long cruise I do the following. I have a spray bottle with water only in it to spray the inside of the bowl to help clean it, and also a toilet brush. These two tricks help you use less water to clean it out, and thus less filling of the tank.

Hmmm; sounds like you used ~ 1gal/flush. Isn't that model's capacity about 2 gallons? Sorry for the misfortune. I think Gloss has the right idea. Come up with ways to use less; especially when no solids are involved.

The 2-gallon portables are generally not enough for two people over two days and nights... If you plan to do that, the 5-6-gallon versions are well worth the few extra bucks.

Plantspray indeed. No flushing unless solids involved.....encourage depositing solids on shore. Get the six gallon version......we did after the first trip...

'dry bowl method' Just use enough water to rinse the bowl after use - don't 'pre-fill' the bowl then way your home toilet does. Six gallon capacity is comfortable for two people, three days, no problem.

We have a 5.2 gallon sanipottie. Its hard to say because it seems we always make shore stops and use the local facilities while there but it seems with the four of us we can go about 3 days between dump outs. But the last day the kids in the v berth start to complain when the captain and first mate try and sneak in and use the head while they are still asleep. We also have a little bottle of water with a spray top (perineal bottle? )

I can empathize with your mess. We went out once with a loose fitting on the tank when it was 1/2 full. It seems that while on starboard tack the contents of the tanks escaped all over the floor. >:(

We cleaned the mess up while at sea, but were unable to dump the tank until we got home, so repeated clean up when alongside out slip (the back yard :)
Clean up went pretty well, but the cabin deck none-slip area is a concern.
What's the best way to clean that area, are mild bleaches ok, what about scrubbing the deck me hearties?
