Has anybody on this forum ever participated in this race? Would the Catalina 25 be appropriate for sailing on Lake Michigan in this type of an event? What an awesome time they must have!

Not only has one of our members participated in this race, they did it solo in 2001.

I don't think I'd enjoy being in a sudden storm on Lake Michigan in a C25!
The race regulations probably specify a minimum boat size. In the offshore "Harvest Moon" Regatta from Galveston to Port Aransas (about 190 miles) the minimum size is 30 feet.

Unfortunetly The minumum size for the Mac is 27 ft, and the race is so big it is by special inventation only! You can sail in the Great Lakes Single handed Society Mac race but you must first qualify as a member. There is a race coming up On Aug 12 called the There and Back race for double and single handed crews out of Chicago 47 miles. If you are interested. I sail on the Lakes all the time with my C-25 and never have come close to a misshap with proper planning. I will be partisipating in the chicago race and the Trans Erie race (140 miles) this August. That is after I win the Nationals in Kansas this year.

If it's blowing I'd put my money on ya!
I have a friend who was a pro skipper out of Chicago for many years...Mike Evanoski, won the MAC one year (after many tries). He tells me about getting knocked down in the middle of the night in a C&C 40! . The MAC race is big time.

Although the Mac is an invite only, there is the ability for anyone to "request an invite". In most cases, if you can show you have sailing experience and you have a sound vessel with all of the safety features and life raft etc, you will be approved to race.
