Hi everyone!

My 79 catalina cushions are in really bad shape as well as the covers. Is this a do it yourself job or something you just buy? Any thoughts?

Anthony,

If your foam is still in good shape, you can order new cushion covers fron Catalina Direct(1-800-959-7245). They are cheaper than new cushions. They will be the colors found on the newer boats, not the ugly '70s plaid ones on our boats.

Most auto upholstery shops, especially in boating areas, will make new covers or do complete new cushions--not necessarily cheaper, but they can be nicer. We had ours made with thicker foam for the berths and fiber fill on top of the foam, and selected a nice Sunbrella upholstery fabric (not canvas) from a large collection. It really transformed the boat--especially for the Admiral. The dozen cushions in our dinette model totalled a little under 20 BUs--not much more than CD with shipping.

I have to agree on all counts. The 80's earthtone plaids were ugly. I had other boat projects higher on the list until this spring. I found an upholsterer locally that did a great job for less than Catalina's price. And after seeing the cabin transformation, it has me wondering what took me so long? The Admiral loves the look and feel. And we all know... if the Admiral's happy, the skipper's happy!
