I'm in the process of coming up with reasons as to why I should replace my standard shaft electric start outboard with a 4Stroke XL shaft motor.
I recently installed an Autotiller with a wired remote control that will reach all the way to the bow.
I'm wondering if, while single handing, and an Extra Long (25 or 27 inch) 4 Stroke (heavy-provides counter weight) hanging off the stern, I'll be able to SLOWLY motor without the prop coming out of the water due to my 240lbs moving to the bow to raise anchor. BTW, I've a swing keel which moves weight forward when keel is down and back when retracted.
I weigh about the same as you. I have a Honda 8hp but its not the EXTRA long shaft. It barely stays in the water when I get forward on the bow, The extra long should be just right.
We have a 4stroke xl shaft honda and my husband and myself have gone forward with the motor staying in the water. As far as the weight on the back, we just shifted some stuff to the port side.
Not to rain on your parade of reasons to buy a new toy but.... Why not walk the anchor line aft, tie it off, start the motor, leave it in neutral and heave away?
