Yesterday, October 6, I sold my beloved Limerick. The realities of life made it a logical decision albeit not a pleasant one. They say the two best days are when you buy a boat and when you sell. Well for me the later was bittersweet. However between mobility issues thanks to age, lack of crew, and changing family dynamics now grandchildren are in the picture, it was the time. I must admit, from a derelict boat to the final project, my son did tons of work, we fixed or replaced everything, and the boat never looked better. The new owner is a father/son team who hopefully will enjoy Limerick as much as our family has. Now, what to do with all the spares I have!!

Peter, Congratulations. While it’s an end of an era for your family, it’s the beginning of a new adventure for this young family. And you and your son were good caretakers for Limerick. Now it’s someone else’s turn.
You should think about getting a 20-something foot Maine-type boat or a pair of jet skis!

Condolences and congratulations Peter. I quit racing/sailing 12 years ago and I still miss it.

After going over to the Dark Side 17 years ago, and in preparation for a move from Mystic, I sold my Sarge (a lobster-style Eastern 27) about a month ago--my first time boatless in something like 55 years. I had Sarge built for me in 2007, replacing what is now Bruce Ross's Passage, and I participated in some customization design work for her--she qualified as "one of a kind." It was a bittersweet parting, but I'm extremely happy about the buyer--a very savvy mariner who will give her more use and probably better attention than I had in the last few years. I captured a webcam image of her passing through the Mystic drawbridge on her way to her new home. (I was 90 miles away at the time.) Great memories for the next chapter. I guess there is life after...

Enjoy it all, Peter! (BTW, I'm headed for your neighborhood.)

Dave,

Thanks for the ride/tour of Mystic onboard Sarge many years ago! Back in the days when I was working, I recall meeting up with you a number of times - Once or twice when I was on a business trip to General Dynamics and the New London Subase and once when my wife and I stopped by on our way to visit a friend in Plymouth, Mass. I think it was on that trip that you graciously offered us a boat tour of Mystic via Sarge.

Peter,
Limerick now will have new adventures and so will you with your grandchildren. Now you can start considering new projects with your grandchildren. I am always coming up with new things to work on with or for my grandchildren. In recent years, built a large dollhouse from a kit made by Real Toys Co; designed and built a castle complete with turrets and drawbridge; 4 wood coin banks for each of them, a 10' long skeeball game and decided to only work on much smaller things from now on.

Dave - you’ve had a remarkable boating career with at least 3 boats that I can recall. Your early daysailer dinghy, Passage, and Sarge. We never know what life will bring us. Good luck on your next adventure!

Larry,

Thanks! Limerick was picked up this morning and is now in New Haven CT. The new crew were excited so, yes, new adventures. And I am already in assembly mode of all the "stuff" new parents need to transport, hold, and "need" for children -- so different from when they were babies!

Greetings I'm in the same situation at 78 my personal strength is just not there any longer, and the cost of winter storage just keeps going up and up.
I'm getting ready to list my boat which really hurts but as you say it's time.
For anyone interested Pixie is a STD rig full keel 82 C25, with a 22 Honda 9.9 ele. start OB, Simrad autopilot, 800 watt inverter, Marine radio/transerver, RayMarine depth/speed/gps, jib just had the sun-protector replaced, main is just fair but serviceable. Is currently moored in Brenton's cove in Newport RI. Can take anyone out for a sail if interested. Price: 1500 obo. The outboard is actually worth more than the asking price. If you would like the boat for almost free ($100.00) I'll put an older low hours Honda 7.5 pull start on it.
