Two possible tropical storms are developing in the the Caribbean and Atlantic now (Invest 93L and 94L). The National Hurricane Center pegs both with better than average shots of development to at least category 1 storms passing near the Bahamas and between the NC/SC East coast and Bermuda in the next 5 to 6 days. If all goes according to the plan right now, the worst case will be rough seas, beach erosion, and dangerous surf. While there’s no prediction of an interaction between the two potential storms at this time, it is possible that they could merge together, or they could rotate around one another in what’s called the Fujiwhara effect. This could alter the storms’ courses somewhat and bring one closer to the shore. For our mid-Atlantic friends, please keep an ear out for possible developments.

I saw the alert regarding these two storms sort of overlapping each other and potentially effecting final paths and hurricane potential. Kind of reminds me of that movie, The Perfect Storm, with two storms……but as you indicated, maybe coast-wise we only have rough seas. Then again…….maybe worse.
Larry, I would definitely NOT want to be sailing to Bermuda right about now…. It’s funny about the longer range models, hurricanes are so unpredictable that they are still learning. With luck, Humberto, which looks to gain Category 3 or possibly Cat 4 will more or less follow the path of Gabrielle. The storm that could become Imelda is weaker, but still may become Cat 1, is more likely to make landfall around SC or Southern NC. There’s a distinct possibility that Imelda could get captured by Humberto in its vortex, and pull it seaward around Sunday night or Monday morning. See Tropical Tidbits and NHC for play-by-play predictions at 8AM, 5PM, and 11PM Atlantic daylight times.
