I am replacing the wiring in my C250 WB mast. I've pulled the old with runners so I can pull the new back in.

Question: There is a large opening on the front bast of the mast. No cover, no gasket. On my mast the VHF and electrical run out of the side of the mast. The electrical had a grommet, the VHF does not.

Is that large front opening left open, or should it have some sort of cover?

Bought Catalina Direct writing harness. Super easy pull using a fish tape. Nice grommet supplied where wire exits at mast base, a 4” length of sealing heat shrink also provided. Pretty easy rewiring project, that is my report. #128077;

Thanks for that. Makes complete sense, and I think I've seen reference to that in the manual now that you mention it.

Also, pulled the old wire yesterday, have the three pair back in, can report that the wiring runs in a conduit, it's tight, and the conduit is riveted to the mast and the rivets make it hard to pull.

I've seen this exact hole once before. When I was shopping for my WB, I looked at a boat with the same hole. I don't know if it was a factory option, but the owner had a Gin-Pole mast raising system, and the lower, 90 degree pole went in that slot. The system was set up with the mini-shrouds, and the Gin-Pole was anchored to the D-ring in the anchor locker.
