We just purchased a C25 swing keel (1981) where exactly is the bilge ?? does it run from under the v-berth and under the cabin floor?? we are still just going through the boat and trying to figure things out

The rubber diaphram in the pump is probably the most common problem--after 38 years, it gets sorta like me after 70...

Assuming your bilge pump is a Whale Gusher 10 {yellow colored), it's self priming, but it has two small flapper valves inside that act as check valves, and if they are defective or stuck, or if the pump's diaphram is defective, it won't work. They're easy to replace with a kit and seem expensive at about $45-50, but a new Whale Gusher 10 costs about $300. and is a good pump.

Sounds like the Guzzler pump needs a rebuild. Easy to do. Here is a thread on it and how to identify your model. Also the pump rebuild kit # from Defender. http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=28088&SearchTerms=Manual+bilge+pump

I pumped the water out using a hand held pump--maybe the pump in the cockpit needs a re-build? thinking of installing an electric pump but not really sure how much water is there--the boat sat for at least a year and I pumped out a little over 5 gallons of water. Also water up under the v-berth

Welcome Floyd! Questions about the C-25 get more attention in the "Catalina 25 Specific Forum" (Scott notwithstanding). The C-250 is a very different boat. Ask away!

Access depends on your interior layout. For a dinette remove the wood boards under the dinette seat cushions and look down. For a standard traditional interior it's under the wood board in the floor.
