I found a two inch blister on the side of the boat about a foot below the water line. For those of you with experience, what's better for such things, MarineTex or West Systems epoxy? Thanks a bunch.
Most people believe West systems is the best, and it probably is, but I've used Marine Tex for cast iron keel and underwater fiberglass repairs, and it never let me down.
I don't know how closely you've examined it, but before you buy the materials, be sure that it's really an osmotic blister. If a boat has many layers of old bottom paint, sometimes a thick slab of old paint will crack and peel, looking like a blister. Scrape the old paint off the area. If the gel coat underneath is solid, it's not a blister. It's just peeling paint. It's easy to mistake one for the other, if you don't dig into it.
