I've decided that my next essential tool on my boat is going to be one of those soft-bristle, dome-shaped cobweb tools that the pest control guys use. Should be great for getting spider webs off the lifelines, bow and stern pulpits, standing rigging, vang, and around the outboard. Should also work along the underside of the rub rail.

David - you can buy spider killer at the big box stores. Spray it everywhere including along your dock lines. "TSU" was inundated with them 2 years ago but I haven't had any since using the spray.
I seem to remember that a clorox solution sprayed around the boat will keep spiders away as well as break down the web structure, but I can't find a good reference to it now.
