I am trying to ascertain a method of telling whether my keel is iron or lead. Im pulling the boat to have the bottom and a number of other things done on 4/6 and needed to find out about the zinc for the keel. Boat is in the signature below.

the white stuff is fairing compound, don't really know what it is- some sort of poly resin, but it is there to fair the lead keel into the fiberglass, the lead casting is not very smooth to begin with. you will probably notice that the leading edge and the trailing edge as well as the wings don't have much on them because they didn't need to be faired as much....
I plan to add the sleeve From CD as my pin hole is probably large enough that I don't have to even bore it out. My question is??? How do you fill in the remaining space?? can it be welded? Epoxied or just leave it go???
