When single handing it helps to have both hands available for a short time to tack, raise/lower keel or other tasks. This brake is rigged or released in seconds and the one loop around the tiller provides sufficient friction (can be adjusted by the length of the shock cord [yellow]). I would assume many other members are already doing something like this, but for those who do not I enclose this picture.
