NOAA Natl Weather Service said tonight that the storm will become a TS and tear apart over the hilly terrain of Hispaniola and Cuba, then turn right and become a trough with lots of rain over the Bahamas and Eastern Florida. It's supposed to traverse most of the state from South to North. Winds however are expected to weaken to 35 kts. The biggest problem they said would be possible flooding rain. So clear out the storm drains and your deck scuppers.
R.I.P. Erika... Nothing but remnants now. Regeneration is possible, but NOAA doesn't expect it--just a significant rain event.

Fred - that's a great name - is just forming off the African coast in the eastern Atlantic. It looks a little far south for a tropical cyclone but we shall see. It went from a question mark on the weather chart to a named storm in 12 hours, so things are developing fast coming into peak season. Let's hope the strong El Niño continues to keep storms away.
Cue the "JAWS" music... Fred is edging a bit further north now just over the Cape Verde islands and is a full hurricane. Long way to go at 10-15kts westerly progress but nothing between it and the windwards now but plenty of 80°+ ocean water. It's a crap shoot what happens next at this point, but anything is possible.
