And a beautiful saturday it is here in New England
Question - the mast is down and i'm proceeding with the rewire project.
I'm testing everything in the cellar before heading out.
New masthead light is fine.
The combo light works and got the LED light oriented righ and it works.
The deck light works, but i'm going to replace it. I don't know how old it is and don't want to put the mast up and then have it burn out.
I am thinking of an LED bulb.
Has anyone replaced theirs with an LED?
The bulb is a BA9s and there are many choices.
Would an LED even be a good choice, or just stick with the halogen?
Thanks
Jay

Just my experience, in all the years I had my C25 and now Gemini, I have rarely turned the deck light on. I keep a couple of the LED headlamp/strap devices onboard and usually use that to do deck work in the dark. In my opinion the headlamp is better because when using the deck light your body is usually shading the area you are trying to work on anyway. So If it were me I would just replace it with the standard bulb.

I agree with Davy, I personally have only turned it on to test the light but never really used it BUT as long as the mast is down and since LED's hold up better than filament bulbs I say why not. I looked around and they are cheap enough, $5 or less. Just check the Lum's on the bulb. I believe the original is a 5W - 50 lm's so get a led with at least as many lm's. Heck,Get crazy and get one with 150lm's and melt the deck.

Or melt the plastic fixture. LOL
Went to NAPA tonight and got the replacement halogen.
I have a couple of the headlights I use for surf fishing, so i'll put one on the baot.

I can't wait to replace the LED in my deck light with a traditional bulb. The LED pattern is horrible and doesn't light anything up. For the small amount it gets used i would rather have it work.

light dispersion pattern is just as important as total light output.

That was my thought, exactly.
That's why I got the halogen after I posted.
Jay

And you don't know the light pattern until you fire it up. More expensive is usually better, but not always. Sometimes brand names count.

I take that bulb out, night blindness on the water and bugs at the dock.

Nice thing about the deck light is you can reach it using a 12' ladder. I replaced my steaming light bulb several times using a ladder. No need to drop the mast.
For a deck light I've gotten a few LED Luci fixtures. I hang two off a halyard and they light up the entire foredeck. Fully solar they'll run for an hour before they shut off automatically.

Got it all resolved. Just put a new bulb in the deck light.
For the steaming light, got a new stern light and used the lens from that one. Also put an LED bulb in it.
New anchor light also.
