my outhaul line is currently the stock setup with a 2:1 purchase inside the boom, which has a 5/16" line running outside, with a short piece of 7x19 3/32" wire connect through the end of the boom to the sail.
does this short piece of wire need to be wire? Since i've got the boom in pieces i was thinking of upgrading to a higher purchase, but i'd like to alleviate the wire and maybe use a short piece of vectran.
the 7x19 wire looks like it's a little less then 3mm probably 3/32" wire which WM shows as 1760 breaking, 3mm V12 single braid vectran shows 1900 breaking. Even if my micrometer is a little off, i think we're still in the zone for breaking strength, is there any other reason this should be wire?
I'm a C25 guy, but isn't a few inches of the end of the outhaul exposed to sunlight, where it attaches to the clew? Vectran is degraded by UV. Stainless is not.

I'm a little surprised by a wire out-haul on a C-25--never seen or thought about it. Mine was some nondescript double-braid rigged for 2:1 purchase. That and my newer Krypton halyards withstood plenty of UV--the core of double-braid is protected from it and takes the load.

Obviously I don't like being snagged by a wire, but I have always considered it a clear warning that the wire needed to be replaced. I've found that as soon as I replace the broken wire, I don't get snagged anymore. I'd rather get a little snag than have the wire fail suddenly and without warning under load.
