I love the 2 tech manuals posted in the members section, they're chock full of great info, especially for new owners. But many of the pictures are fairly undecipherable, it's slightly frustrating to read this helpful information but not be able to make any sense of the associated pictures and illustrations.
My questions are simple - does anybody have a more legible copy of these two .pdf's? Is anybody "in charge" of maintaining and updating?
BTW this is certainly not intended as a criticism to whomever took the time to both contribute and compile this information. I'd just love to view them as they were originally intended.

The history of the Technical Manuals, as far as I know it, is that they were produced in the late '70s and early '80s from contributions by members of the association; most notably, from Bill Holcomb. The association had the manuals printed and bound into two volumes and offered them for sale.
When I joined the association in June 2002, the association was still selling the two manuals through the old Ships Store. If you're relatively new to the association, then you may not be familiar with the old Ships Store, but we had an inventory of burgees, decals, and wearables along with the manuals that were all managed by the association's Quartermaster. Between 2002 and 2004, many changes occurred with the Ships Store, and the Quartermaster duties changed hands a couple of times, eventually falling upon me. Therefore, the remaining inventory was shipped to me at that time.
Shortly after receiving the inventory, I noticed some problems with the stock of printed Technical Manuals. One volume was missing several pages and the other volume was missing every other page. Apparently, somewhere along the line a printer had screwed up the print job. My assumption is that the error occurred during the last round of printing, since no complaints had ever been received. However, this error left the association without a single copy of the complete manuals to replicate and, therefore, I removed the manuals from the Ships Store.
Following this action, I contacted Bill Holcomb to discover whether Bill had or knew where either soft copies or complete hard copies of the manuals might be obtained. Bill did not, but he had retained a good deal of his original text submissions in soft copy. Being the ultimate supporter of the association that he is, Bill offered to scan and cut and paste as much of the manuals as possible into a soft copy format. After I received the two files from Bill, I spent a little time making sure all the formatting was consistent before submitting them to the association's Webmaster for inclusion in the Members Only area of the association's website. The Webmaster converted the MS-word files to .pdf prior to the upload...and that is the history of the files that you have accessed.
This association is run by volunteers and everything found on this website has been made available by the contributions of volunteers. The current manuals are relicts of an era when a greater proportion of association members participated in and made contributions to the association. Perhaps someday, someone will take it upon themselves to update the manuals or to produce completely new ones.
