I've put out an email to all of the old timers that have gone for a while and haven't quite been back; either recently or at all. If we can get just 10% of them to come here and hang out that is 10% more knowledge than we used to have.
So for the Prior Owners -
What did you have and what Do you now own?
D. Wolff DPO C25 Hull 401 Currently Sailing "Champagne and Ripple" 1982 O'day 30
Hellooooo! I'm here. Did I ever really leave? I know, It's been a while. For those that came after I left.....Lady Kay (#III) is a Catalina 42 I picked up at a foreclosure..... #I was a 1980-ish C30, #II was 250WB # 618 which I trailered for 6000 miles....(twice from PA to Florida) and sailed on the Chesapeake quite a bit. Did a lot of modifications, like a dodger, custom cabin/cockpit table, AC, 110 system......
Lady Kay (#III) lives on the Chesapeake in the summer, and in South East FLorida in the winter....I sail it back and forth outside, sometimes alone, sometimes with two. In fact there's a northbound "run" coming up at the end of the month here....If you want to follow along I'll be posting updates here:
Oscar, nice to have you check in with us! I'm looking forward to following the account of your trip north. I haven't left the Bay yet, but am still thinking about it, perhaps this fall, and am anxious to learn anything I can from you.
Ruth and I have sold our Alberg 29 and are now live aboards in Seattle. Retirment in two years. Here is our new home. Hope to see some of you in the San Juans this August or at the Lats and Atts Party in Poulsbo Wa 2nd weekend or Aug. It's been a long haul to achive our dream but as you can see it can be done. Need help getting there, need ideas, ask how. I would be glad to help. Here is a picture of Angelique our Formosa 51 in her new slip in the Schilshole Marina Seattle.
Whew! Tough acts to follow! After two seasons of almost no use, I sold my '85 C-25 last August. (it took almost 48 hours!) The lack of use was due to (1) the passing of my 35-year-long sailing partner and Admiral, (2) a new "very good friend" 90 miles away, who is very busy with a HS senior and a real estate career, and (3) little interest in going out by myself, except on my 18' runabout or one of my kayaks...
So, I decided to "consolidate the fleet" by selling the C-25 and the runabout and getting a.... ahem..... 27' sort of "downeast"-style powerboat that can take me and my friend quickly to some of the amazing destinations within a short day of here and stay overnight or get back home as we wish.
To get exactly what I wanted, I decided on a builder in NH who does lots of commercial stuff but also semi-custom pleasure boats using the same hulls. We came up with a sort of "express cruiser" style with fairly open sides, a hardtop, and a cabin with v-berth, enclosed head, and small galley. It's powered by a Honda 225 (the V6 from the Pilot SUV) on a platform-bracket on the transom--I'll spare you the reasons for selecting this option rather than the more common stern-drives in that boat--this is after all a sailing site.
I plan to sea-trial her the week of 4/23 and have her pulled down to CT as soon thereafter as possible, after which she'll sit in a slip outside of my condo (where the C-25 couldn't get to). Now and then, she'll do the 90-mile run to my friend's home--she has a mooring in view of the house.
Here's a partial look at Whatsername in the shop--almost completed...
...with side curtains attached
...without the helm seats.
She should cruise in the mid 20s and top out in the upper 30s--we'll soon see. At 5-knot no-wake speed, she'll be almost silent. Sleeps two, parties ten!
I'll be sailing Beetle Cats at the Mystic Seaport--who knows, maybe even racing them.
Hey Dave, good to see you're doing well! I'm sure you'll make a knowledgeable and considerate power boater. And, that's a sweet looking boat. Are you going to put flames on the bow? (duck!) Just kidding.... I know you'll love that motor. It's about the quietest way to get the job done, both for those aboard and for the rest of the world. Good luck with it....Eh, is "Whatshername" final, or does that mean you're still looking for a name......maybe we can help?

Sorta both... I've kinda settled on that after an extensive search that yielded lots of good sailboat names... Want something a bit whimsical but also feminine, and no plays on words (Vitamin Sea and such). For pronunciation purposes, I thought I should leave out the "h", and for appearance, omit the apostrophe. But I'm still open to ideas. (Are you suggesting I need help--badly? )

quote:
Maybe a flare target /bulls eye on the bow

Hey, hey! You might be looking at a future committee boat here! (You know, "Parties ten"!) Guess I'll have to mount a couple of cast-iron-seeking torpedos on the gunwales!
And Oscar: Where did you get that arial photo? Did one of your buddies bring his 757 down to 100'? (...or was it you?) I see your reflector... (double-catch-rain?)
Yup, catch rain position. I got the special bracket for that purpouse. Make sure to get the up-line away from the thing on the way down. If it touches it will chafe through, fast.
The picture was taken by boatpix.com They buzzed me in a helicopter off Miami and took unsollicited photo's. (They work their way up and down the coast and take everyone's picture.)
BTW, was I building my barn yet when I left? It's come a long way. In fact, it's enclosed and heated and has been used all winter for the school event(s) preparation....Next project is a 1962 Land Rover.....due to arrive on a big car carrier from the UK next week.....
The landyacht, "Sir Gasalot" came last summer..... Beloved first born wanted to attend Pennsic Wars (google that, there's a parallel universe out there!) She's heavily into costume making....I promised myself I would not sleep on dirt anymore after I got out of the Dutch army in 1978....so I bought Sir Gasalot on e-bay.....and spent three hard weeks getting it up to speed... It's got a short list of things to do, but it's fully street legal. The interior is in great shape, the 440 runs like a champ, the tranny and all the brakes are rebuilt.... more pics: (the daughter is in medieval garb....)

You knew about the stinkpot, but I'll bet you didn't expect to see an old Winnebago, an older Land Rover, and a barn!
