We just made a new Sunbrella cabin cover/boom tent for our boat. We made it with an adjustable collar at the mast so we can use it both ways. For using it as a cabin top cover I found some 1 inch sail slides that fit on the outside spinnaker track for tying it down. Using two widths of 60 inch Sunbrella sewn together it made a tarp that went from the front stanchions by the mast back to covering the rear winches and held down with bungee to the traveler. We tapered the front width from 6 foot out to 8 foot and then the back width is 8 foot. It is working really well to shed the water. I put a rubber fender on the cabin top to help tent it and also tied a long piece of shock cord over it from the from the stanchions by the back of the cabin up around the mast and back, just to add a little anti-flap to it. I'll post some pictures here.
The sewing machine is an older, fairly heavy duty, standard home type machine. Not a commercial duty machine. It has a 1 amp motor. We used 100% polyester upholstery thread and a heavy 18 gauge needle. I think sharp needles are the key. We had to switch needles often because the sunbrella is tuff stuff and dulls the needles quickly. I think we went thru at least 4 needles to sew the tarp.

Plus I have plenty of other projects to get to on my own boat.
We have an old sewing machine and I would like to try it out. Making a cover would be a good first project. Thinking about a boom tent. You've inspired me.
Is there a way to get a replacement OEM cabin cover? My boat has what looks like an original custom-made cover which snaps into place over the top of the cabin. It has shrunk over the years and now can't be pulled out to reach all the snap points on the deck. Its nice to have something that fits just right and doesn't have to be tied on.
Do you have the pattern and dimensions of the cabin cover. If so I would sure appreciate it and then could fabricate my own. Looks pretty neat. Please email patterns to me. Thanks RonE
