My 99 C250 WB had no flanges on the mast step to hook on blocks. So I had a retrofit plate machine shopped where the original mast step and compression post will slide into the plate. This was recommended by Catalina Yachts who provided me with the plans. The end result is a plate with 2 flanges on each side that will lay in between the deck and orginal mast step.
I'm thinking of installing this during this weekend. Once I remove the original mast step with compression post welded to it, what type of sealant will I need to use?

4200. I did a similar upgrade on my old C22. First, place the new flange unit where it will be located and then tape off around it for 6" or so all around using that blue masking tape. Then put down a good bedding of the 4200, place the flange and mast step and bolt them down. 4200 will squeeze out the sides and onto your tape. Clean that up with a cloth. When the 4200 dries just remove the tape and you have a nice clean installation. You'll like having a place to connect blocks at the base of the mast.
I pulled my mast step and re-bed it a couple years ago because it was leaking. I contacted Catalina and ask what they used and was told 4200 (like the others have said).
After you get the sealer on, snug up the bolts until the sealer starts to squeeze out a little. Then wait until the sealer dries before you tighen the bolts down the rest of the way.
Another thing I did was wait until I had fed the compression pole through the hole on deck and the plate was just a few inches from touching the deck before I put the sealer on. This keeps the sealer from smearing on the compression pole as it slides through the deck.
