As some of you may know, I have been refitting hull number 0029 for years now. Working out of town has me not working on the boat a lot.
Last fall I sprayed the new gelcoat on the hull. I wanted a color change and gelcoat, not paint. The problem I have with paint is that eventually, you'll have to do it again.
Here are some pics of the transom now that I have it polished. I have been learning a lot doing this and my arms are getting bigger. It's a lot of work but the shine is awesome. So I thought I'd share the shine with you. In the one photo, you can see the neighbors house 300 ft away out the shop window. The angle photos always look great so there is a strait on photo also.






The boot stripe is white. When the gel is sanded and polished the boot stripe and gelcoat are all one plane, just like it popped out of hte mold. I got a lot of sanding and polishing to do.
You can see I have a little chip of gelcoat to repair.
The gel is actually darker than it looks here.

Exactly! Way to go Dan!

If you have time, perhaps you can share some of the particulars of applying a new layer of gelcoat - product brands and equipment specs.

Wow Dan, that's amazing! I second what Steve said, if you have some time, we'd appreciate tips on what you've learned. I've got a tomato-soup-colored Lido that really, really wants and Extreme Hull Makeover - Dan Edition.

What a beautiful job!!!!!!!!!!A few years ago I had some work done on my bow area that required the professional to re gel coat a section, which looks fantastic. So, I inquired about having the entire boat done. Real sticker shock! But, I agree with you that the finished product looks great AND it will last much longer than any paint. When you are done you should do a detailed description in the Tech Forum for us dreamers wh might be as brave as you to tackle the job!!!

I would like to echo all the compliments and second UNSINKABLES request of tips. I really encurage you to write a little "do it yourseld" instrudction. How you did it? What gun, what pressure, waht air supply, what sandpaer, etc, etc.
