I am going to replace the deadlight on my 1984 C25, with one from Catalinadirect. Any advise on the removal of the old one would be greatly appreciated.

i just did this for the second time last friday. the first time I had to break out the old deadlight. I beded it with lifecaulk like you will find in some old posts. It always dripped a little. On my new boat the deadlight was leaking like a sieve. I thought i'd try a different solution. getting this one out was easy. ran my pocket knife along the edges and it just popped out.
For the new install I got some 1/8 smoked plexiglass and cut a replacement slightly smaller that the original. bonded it into the opening with 3m VHB tape, and caulked the edges with 3m 395 sealant. I figured if it worked for the cabin it will work on the deck. we will see how it holds up after it cures.

There is why it leaked. Life-calk is a polysulfide sealant and is not compatable with plastics. Use Boatlife Life Seal. Its made for plastics.
quote:The polysulfides, such as BoatLIFE's Life Calk or 3M's 101, bond to wood better than silicone does and also bond fairly well to metals and fiberglass. However, they can melt some plastics and acrylics, such as Lexan, and some vinyls can become softened by exposure to their solvents.
