Bon Bon - Traveler

The hardware for this modification is all Harken and was purchased through West Marine. The components include a pair of track risers, a 4ft high-profile midrange track, two traveler controls, a traveler car, two single blocks, one double block with becket, and three boom bails.

As our boat has a pop-top, I needed to attach the risers outboard of the pop-top for clearance above the companionway hatch, I used beveled teak mounting pads. The risers were each attached using four - three inch long, 3/8 inch beveled head bolts with two inch diameter washers as backing washers, lock washers, nuts, and cap nuts. A silicone sealant was used in all the drilled holes and under the teak pads.

This modification has removed the mainsheet from the cockpit, cleaning up the aft cockpit area and removing any danger of being clotheslined by the mainsheet. The traveler system is much easier to adjust and fine tune than the factory system. The only drawback is that to use the pop-top I must remove two pivot rods in the risers, which are held in by E clips. Also, I was able to move our bimini aft a foot since the mainsheet would no longer interfere with it.
