Dragon Tail - Stove and Tank

This tip submitted by Ken Cave

The propane tank that is mounted outside on the rear of the boat. When mounting the tank, be sure to put some tape between the tank and the mounting straps. If you do not severe pitting will be the end result as we are working with stainless steel straps, aluminum tank, and, and an outside environment.

The tank itself is a 1.4 gallon size (six pound) and can be purchased for around $100.00. The regulator and gauge is about $45.00. Figure at least 20 feet of hose (about $60.00) with the ends attached and, this should be extent of the cost of installation.

When installing the hose, be sure to purchase enough so that you have plenty to get around all the partitions, etc. in the boat to the proposed stove.

I use the stove extensively when cruising, which we do a lot, and, usually fill the tank once a season at the cost of a dollar or so. As the stove was installed in the boat when I purchased it, I do not know who made up the aluminum sides, but they make a great heat shield, and are easy to clean. The stove itself does not swing (which it did) and I light the burners and oven by hand-another safety feature, as I don't want the pilot lights to blow out when sailing.
