Jib & Tonic - Hatch Knob Cure

Here is a tip to keep the hold down knobs of the pop top and hatch out of the way. I'm not sure this applies to the newer C-25's but it was a savior on our 1983 model.

Ever noticed how the hold-down knobs seem to get in the way? Kind of hard to keep them "unlocked" when raising or out of the way when lowering? Ever hit your head on the knobs of the forward hatch when in the V-berth? Not a good way to start the morning. Velcro is the answer to your troubles. Round off the points of the knobs just a bit with a file. This reduces the angles so the Velcro will adhere better. Glue Velcro around the points of the knob and on the "ceiling" to where the unscrewed knob will swing. I used the soft portion of the Velcro on the knob gluing one small piece over each point so the points are still there, but they are now fur covered. The Velcro keeps the knobs up & out of the way, freeing up all hands to manage "the beast". I found this handy on the fwd. hatch also. With the knobs held in the up position, you can close the hatch so it doesn't snag the jib sheets, but you are still free to open from the foredeck. I used peel & stick Velcro at first, but heat broke down the adhesive and I ended up using Liquid Nails to glue it on.

Happy Sailing
