There have been several of you members wanting to know about the Lionseal PVC Vinyl flooring for the sole of your boat. I have finished up my first project using this product, and for many of you wanted to see some photos of the flooring.
I was wanting to replace the teakandholly flooring in our capri 25. This was an option on our boats coming from Catalina, our boat did not come with the flooring, but I really wanted the look of what the wood did to the sole of the boat inside the cabin. After a month of looking at the real TeakandHolly plywood flooring The cheapest prices were around 165.00 for the 4x8 sheet of plywood, and another 150.00 to 200.00 have it freight shipped to our office. Another member on the forum guided me to the site of the Lionseal Vinyl flooring. It was 45.00 per ft. and it was 6'-0" wide. I needed 70" of the product so I would have to order 6'-0" to get the job done with the teakandholly going the right direction.
The product is about an 1/8" thick and I knew that if it was put down correctly it would last several years past the plywood product. It would never rot, nor would I ever have to sandand varnish it. So I bought the Lionseal product.
I wont go into all of the details about what I did to install it, If you have a question please put it on the forum so I can answer it. I found it really easy to work with, and glued it on top of a thin GRP wall board so I can take it out of the boat when needed. It really added a warmer feeling to the inside of the boat.
1. Here I marked out the dimensions of the sole on the GRP Wall board, I got this from Home Depot, at 29.00 for a 4x8 sheet, I had then rip the GRP there to the correct dimensions then Cut it out using a jig saw.
After the GRP was cut I rolled out the Lionseal product and added some marks to the flooring to get the teak planks square and in the right place. This is a shot of my son helping daddy out.
I glued the product down using good old polyester resin, This would be a step that if I had the chance to use the glue that Lionseal sells. The material has a cloth like back so it didn't glue well at the edges, I had to glue it three times making all of the edges sealed up. I wanted to make one solid piece of flooring. It is very flexible and really easy to cut with a box knife. The finished product looks good and should provide us with years of use.
I have to finish up the project by making the Keel box cover, but you can see the difference in the color of the real teak vs the Vinyl. No more rotten boards
On the floor of the Capri 25 there is a 1/2" gap for a teakandholly floor, I just matched the dims that are in the files section and cut it out.
Yes I do have a scrap I can send you, email me with an address. I also have a 36"x72" section left over. I had to order a 6'-0" long section and the sole is just 33" wide, the roll is 72" wide. If anyone is interested in this product I will mail them a sample, I have a pretty good scrap section left over.
The stuff is very plyable so a curved floor wouldn't be a problem, but i would stay away from anything over a 30 deg bend.
I think I paid 45.00 per ft x 6'-0" wide. total cost for everything is around $350.00 turn key, I wish they had a 3'-0" roll.
Chris, Do you still have a 36"x72" section left over. I would be interested in buying it from you if you do. I tried to send an email directly, but I don't think it went through. Thanks.
