Received the new sheaves from BellPat Marine. They look to me to be sized for 5/16" line. I would prefer 3/8", not necessarily for strength, but because it is easier to handle and work with. Has anybody used 3/8" line with the Bellpat sheaves? Any problem with the line jumping the sheaves?

I wondered the same thing when I received my sheaves. I went ahead and used my 3/8 line and have had no problems. My jib is a furler and I only had to raise and lower the jib a few times. But If I had not already bought the 3/8 line by mistake, I would have got 5/16.

Thanks. I will go with the 5/16". AN interesting experience for the record: I ordered 500 feet of 3/8" line from Defender Industries. They were far cheaper than anyone else: 54 cents a foot for 500. 60 cents otherwise. However, after a week I called only to learn that although the catalog showed "in stock" it was in fact back ordered. This is not the first such experience I have had with Defender. I think the lesson is that if you don't have a time imperative, they are a good. cheap source, but if you are in a hurry, be careful.

Quality is sometimes an issue as well. They do not always use the same suppliers for the same equipment. The lighter line will save you weight aloft which is always desirable. Dave
