I am looking for a really good electrical book for sailboats. I would love to find a book that covers, in layman's terms, the in's and out's of the 12v and 110 systems on a sailboat.

Any great advice out there? Thanks.

I really like Don Casey's Sailboat Electrics Simplified.

I'll Second what Mark said. Casey's book is the best basic book I have found. I have learned a lot from it. I especially like the chapter on how to use a multimeter.

You can get it cheap from Amazon.com

Nigel Calder's book on Mechanical and Electrical systems is good too, but Casey's book should be #1 on your list if you want to start at square one.

Here are two of the books I've come across. I own the 12 volt bible... It is basic enough that a moron like me gets by.

For further reading, I highly recommend Nigel Calder's Boatowner's Manual for Mechanical and Electrical Systems. I had Miner's book, and still have it, and it is very basic, doesn't suggest solar and other systems. Calder's book would, to many, seem over-the-top to many C25 sailors, but I have found it to be the very best book to learn about systems and equipment, now that we have a bigger boat. I could have used the information in it to many advantages in our C25. When we bought our C34 in 1998, we went on a vacation three weeks after we bought the boat. I brought the book with me and learned more from reading it and making notes, than I thought I ever would. You may learn more than you need, but I've told people it's the best 50 bucks they could spend on their boats. It covers batteries, 12V and 120V systems. It'll become the only book you'll ever need for your boat, while you could spend smaller amounts for a series of the other books, but that all adds up, too. Now that the third edition has come out, you should be able to find some decent low prices on the second edition.
