Well, I have the boat in the yard and the mast on sawhorses. I have stripped all running rigging and replaced halyard sheaves. Standing rigging looks good to eye inspection and toilet paper test, with the exception of the starboard upper shroud. The stud which connects to the turnbuckle is pretty well bent. I have heard that this happens sometimes when stepping the mast. Could be. Question is, is there an easy (read cheap) repair, or do I need to replace the whole shroud. Catalina Direct website says no standing rigging in stock, but I have not called them. It seems to me that the answer might be a Norseman or Sta-Lock stud fitting, But I am concerned about total length, noting that I will have to cut the wire to make the installation. Has anybody done this? It would sure be cheaper and quicker than a custom job somewhere.
Norseman and Sta-Lock's are good fittings if installed properly.
If you browse the hardware sites that offer them I think you'll find that there are special fittings made for extending a shroud with a terminal that had to be cut off. (exactly your situation).
Most competent rigging shops can make up a new swaged-fitting shroud if you supply them with exact measurments of what you need... or send in the damaged part.
Avoidance of bent fittings is one of the big reasons I disconnect all non-essential standing rigging during mast raising/lowering.
