Thanks to Leon for helping me get one more summer out of the old Honda, but last week the Admiral announced a new motor (dependable) is required.

After shopping around and getting shocked by the local dealer prices (8hp Honda 20" 4-stroke = $3,300, yikes), I went searching on-line. After getting two good quotes (OnlineOutboards.com and portabote.com) I went with the onlineoutboards because they are closer to home, hopefully with a shorter shipping time.

The short story is that I called on Monday (Labor Day), placed the order ('06 Tohatsu 9.8 25" ES 4-stroke = $1,925) but they had a 20-30 day backlog. They called Tuesday morning with the same in a Nissan for $2,000. That was OK with me, so they shipped it and it arrived on Thursday. Wow, new outboard in time for the weekend.

By the way, they gave me $25.00 off for e-check rather than debit card, I guess they save that in Visa fees.

Sorry if this sounds like an ad for that website, but it was a good experience that might help someone else. I have no connection with them whatsoever.

Sweet!!...hooray new outboard! Congrats Greg. I'm still waiting on my outboard (20 years old) to bite the big one...just seems to keep coming back to life.

Also, I'm curious, is Nissan the same as Tohatsu?

Have a great time this weekend!

25" shaft, sweet.

I just bought my Tohatsu 3.5 hp forward/neutral OB from those guys too. They were the only supplier I could find who had this motor still in stock. They ship very quickly. Good experience

Yes, Tohatsu and Nissan are the same motor. Nissan costs more. The small Mercury's are the same too, but cost even more money than either. I'm not sure at what size Mercury makes their own.
