has anyone found a good way to convert the mid-cabin into a decent berth for two adults who a)cannot fit into the v-berth, and b) are frustrated with the headroom in the aft (water ballast, of course).
we used to have a smaller boat that did not have enough room in the vberth. so we bought some flat metal bars, kind of like slats and laid them across the middle, then had a piece of plywood cut to fit. then bought a piece of foam the same thicknes and covered it with that. it was not perfect, but it worked ok.
If you have the seat cushions for the cockpit, they can be put on the cabin sole and some degree of comfort obtained. The head door cannot be opened however...
I have found the V berth quite adequate and more appealing than than the aft berth mostly because its much better ventilated and allows me to adjust the ventilation during the night to suit.
Last year I cruised three weeks, half of which with my brother in law who is 6'2" and we shared the V Berth with no problems. With him, we sleep head to the bow and our feet spill over considerably onto the settees...not a problem when using sleeping bags.
With the honey, the feet go to the bow and we open the bags, one over and one under.
