Good morning, My Catalina took extensive damage in Hurricane Wilma yesterday. She was pierced in the Hull by a large cleat on the dock and the motor and mount was ripped off the back. I am going to need to do a lot of repairs but was just wondering if anyone knows where I can locate a new mount for the motor.... Somehow the motor wound up on the dock and not in the water... not sure how I got that lucky. Anyway, if anyone has any help they can give me, let me know.
Bless your heart. You should call Catalina Direct, (a Catalina dealer with a web site) and order their owners guide. It will show you every part you will ever need including three choices on the motor mount. 1-800-959-7245 Make you life easy and stick with them, the "kit" everything so you get the bolts, etc. with what you order. Look at my pages, linked in my sig, and you will see two mounts. I do not recomend the black one. I recomend this one from Catalina Direct. (this is the big four springer)
I'm sorry for your damage. Your motor probably ended up on the dock when wave action brought the aft end down on top of the dock and knocked it off the mount. I've been through quite a few storms here in the FL panhandle. If you can get to the boat prior to the storm, you should always remove the motor. That is just too much weight cantilevered off the mount. Also, you can't have too many lines on the boat during a storm. Our C-25s need more and bigger cleats. I am going to add a large cleat on the bow and two smaller mid-ship cleats to provide more anchor points. I sustained some gelcoat damage during Ivan, but it could have been much worse -- I was down to one last windward line when the storm finally let up. As a result, my boat was on the dock for a while due to the wind and storm surge. Deploying the anchor with all its rode even if you keep the boat in the slip can greatly reduce the vertical motion of the boat due to wave action.
I hope you can get all your repairs made before next spring. It took me almost a year. There was a huge boatyard backlog.
