Yes, I paid the $ for the 1969 Catalina/Capri Coronado 15 yesterday. It needs a lot of work and so does the trailer. But I got her home in one piece. Hull is very sound, Ulman sails are like new, standing rigging is clean, running rigging looks OK. Rudders, tillers (I have 2) center board and all wood is not dryrotted but very old and gray. All the mechanical gear - blocks, tracks, traveller, mast, boom, etc. look like new. Those foot straps you use for hiking look good.

Worst thing is the trailer axel is quite rusted, the rims are rusted, the leaf springs are rusted, the little tires have a leak. The rest of the trailer looks OK.

I'm going to try to drop the boat in the front yard and work on the trailer first.

I think this makes 5 boats I now own:

1978 Catalina 25
1969 Capri 15
9 foot hard fiberglass dinghy of unknown vintage
9 foot Seward inflatable
12 foot kayak

Nice winter project and I should be sailing in Mission Bay soon - Bahia de Los Angeles next June.

I'll post photos this weekend!

Jim save your self some time and energy and just go down to Wal-Mart and get a new set of tires and rims. I think they only want about $22 for the tire and rim. Almost doesn’t even make sense to even get an old tire patched. Maybe you can save one of the old tires as a spare. Oh I just sent off for six boat registrations last week.

Sail
14’ Lido
16’ Hobe Cat
18’ Buccaneer
25’ Catalina 250

Power
12’ 3 seat Jet ski
18.5’ Chaparral

Other
17’ sea kayak

I am down on mission bay all the time with the small boats. The 18’ would be a comparable boat. I will also be down to San Diego for the Hot Rum series November 6, 20 and December 4 on a Catalina 36’. SDYC, Maybe I can catch you when you take your new toy out.

Northern tool has pretty good deals on axle kits. I second the walmart tires and rims.

I told my wife it was time to downsize the fleet. I just spent $398. last week on the 17' Logic center console helm 'cause it just sits most of the time and then gets froze up. Don't know why that is. The john boat is great as it is on a skid in the back yard. We just slide it into the creek when we want to fish in St. Johns R. and salt water estuary. There is a Mad River canoe in the back also. The hull is plastic but it has rot on the hardwood gunwales. Wish I could find the time to do some more canoing.

I'll see your 2 Catalina's and 3 kayaks and raise you one kayak
Our fleet consists of
2 Walden paddler kayaks
2 kit built Chesapaeke Light sea kayaks
1 built from plans 12 foot sailing dingy
1 C250
1 soon to be acquired C36

Is there a vessels anonymous out there somewhere???
P.S. we sold the 2 canoes and the rowboat 4 years ago - hard to find enough hours to enjoy them all.

No, but I jumped too soon to buy your motor mount, this boat has a perfectly good one (not adjustable).

no comments on my beautiful lawn and the wonderful "Rock Bottom Ranch" where Spike and I reside?

How does he have such a place and STILL sail 200 days/year?

How cool is it to park a boat on your lawn, tow it around with your tractor, and just leave it there and no complaints from the neighbors?

Don't even need to put the tools away or take the key out of the tractor.

Internet access is slow at the house and we don't have natural gas. Direct TV (satellite) is the ONLY option.

I do need a name for the little boat. I expect it to be wet and fast. Heidi and I have come up with these, any other ideas?

Splash
Squirt
Bubbles
Titanic
Lunete

Leaning towards "Bubbles" Heidi's idea.

Gotta be a short name, its a small boat. Lunete is a girl's name in a book I'm reading now.

Take it apart, and then to your local sandblasting place......a few cans of rustoleum and you're good to go.....

Eilean was the name of one of our ducks, she had a bad foot. That brings to mind Feather, another much beloved duck who has now passed on to the great pond in the sky.

Feather is now on the list. I like it.

Jim,
Congratulations on your new acquisition. Since your big boat is Indiscipline, and you do have a knack for acquiring boats, maybe Little Discipline might be a good name for the new one!

BTW, I had Mara out for a couple of hours today. It was absolutely beautiful! 80 degrees, 10kts of wind and the ocean was like a lake. It took a lot of "discipline" to turn around and head back to the barn when my time was up.
