Well into a Catalina 25 refit project I have developed an intolerance (allergic reaction) to latex gloves.
Does anyone on our forum have this problem and which gloves are being used, successfully, in place of latex?
Thanks.

There are a few choices. One is a vinyl glove. The other is a nitrile. You can get them at home depot and lowes I think. If not, surely online.

Mark...Gempler carries all manner of gloves to be used with hostile materials. I know they carry nitrile gloves vinyl also.

Buy a box of nitrile gloves. I keep a box in the work car, home, and the boat.

I used to use natural latex surgical gloves but found that they deteriorate (dry rot) fairly quickly if they aren't used. Now I use synthetic latex surgical gloves. They were developed for use by people who are latex intolerant. I haven't found that any of the chemicals we use eat holes in them, and they are thin enough that you can feel the smoothness of the surface you're working on. You can get them from a medical supply house. They cost about $10-12 for a box of 100 gloves.

Thanks all. I'll try the nitrile gloves next, after my hands heal (complete skin change in progress).

I found that epoxy tends to dissolve the vinyl golves. I think we are using the purple nitrile gloves on National Ski Patrol now. Better to use something that will not harm the patient. Such a nice color too.

Thanks John. This allergy is a new problem. I've used vinyl, latex and who knows what successfully in the past.
Years ago I was a commercial chemical applicator - it is always interesting to see how the human body's natural resistance slowly yields to different compounds.
If this happens again, my refit project is over (at least for me).
Thanks again.
