I am considering where to place stereo speakers in the cockpit area. I have reviewed some of the existing postings and am interested in possibly mounting speakers under the quarter seats. The question I have though is does anyone have any advice on how to route the wires from the hull area out to the speakers in a waterproof manner?
Also, anyone have any suggestions of a brand / model of speaker to fit under here?
Finally, how about mounting the stereo unit, locations in particular? As I previosly stated, I have reviewed the existing posts but am curious if anyone has any additional info on this issue, antennea types etc.
I put some Pioneer 6" marine speakers under there with the stereo on the starboard side in the cabin. I ended up having to drill a couple of holes above the galley and above into the liner under the electrical panel. I did this also to run a direct power wire to the stereo as I couldn't find any open path from the electrical panel to the front. I plan to cover with some white vinyl tubing come next season but there is only about 4" of wire exposed from directly below the electrical panel to the back of the galley near the dish storage. From there I just pulled the wires from front to rear and behind the aft berth to the speakers. The front speakers, on either side of the cabin table were much easier.
Hey Don, I have 2 Bose speakers mounted under the wing seats (admirals perch). They are mounted in such a way that the speaker wires when leaving the speakers line up perfectly with the aft most wing seat mount. The PO ran the wire along the seat mount and drilled a small hole right at the base of the seat mount where it bolts on the hull. He then put sealer around the wire and hole. He used a heavy duty aluminum tape and taped the wire to the seat mount. If you look close you can see the wire taped to the seat mount in the picture. The tape has held up well.
